Do the words knitting, crochet or needlework immediately conjure up thoughts of a little old woman furiously knitting in the corner? Well hold onto your seats, this is most certainly not the case anymore as pictures of Tom Daley, Olympic diving gold medalist casually knitting and crocheting in the stands making a splash world-wide.
The 24-year-old diver has over 2 million Instagram followers @tomdaley and is well-known in the UK, but Tom Daley became headline news around the world when he was pictured casually knitting in the stands at the Olympics, not once or twice, but multiple times. Causing a world-wide furor.
He even has a second Instagram page call Made with Love where he shares his handwork @madewithlovebytomdaley knitting and crocheting a bunch of cool things, even a little pouch to hold his medal in! Here he is showing off his latest creation - a bespoke Olympics jersey - created by him.
“One thing that has kept me sane throughout this whole process is my love for knitting and crochet and all things stitching,” he said in an Instagram video.
Here's to hoping that having a young Olympian inspires a whole new generation of crafters!
